For scientists and academics, the presentation of their work results in English often is an essential part of a successful professional career. Why then is the mere transfer of information at conferences often placed above an effective and memorable presentation of content? Is it perhaps also the use of a foreign language that prevents presenters from making full use of their communicative competence?
This workshop not only focuses on basic rhetorical and presentation techniques, but first and foremost on linguistic design elements. The structure and impact of English as the Lingua Franca of science will be examined in greater detail in the respective technical context of the participants. The aim of this workshop is to create an authentic and convincing impression through the competent use of English as the language of science.
Upon request, gender aspects of the Lingua Franca English can also be discussed.
It is also possible to integrate the topics of gender and gender justice in science communication into this workshop format.
Entrepreneurial thinking and language competence are elementary prerequisites for a successful career in science and business. Skills in language and business are usually trained and considered separately. This bilingual seminar brings together language and business through ‘learning by doing’ and consolidates, deepens and extends your knowledge in both fields.
